QCT to hold auditions for student productions

Auditions have been scheduled for the next student theatre production, "Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures," adapted for the stage by Kent R. Brown from the book by Lois Lowry.  Auditions will be held by appointment on Thursday and Friday, September 4 and 5.  Students in grades 2-12 are welcome to audition.  Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script.  Scripts are available for a two-day checkout from the QCT office.  To schedule an audition appointment, call QCT at 222-3209.

Performances will be held for area schools on October 21, with a special performance for the show's sponsors on October 22.  The show official opens to the public on October 23 and runs through the 26th

The classroom door bursts open and there, wearing pajamas and cowboy boots, stands Gooney Bird Greene, and the class is never the same again. Gooney Bird speaks with confidence and dresses in outrageous outfits.  Most wondrous of all, she casts herself as the hero in the most improbable, outlandish, yet always true, stories.  In blending funny and memorable characters with colorful details and her distinctive flair for suspense, Gooney Bird awakens the students' dormant imaginations. They come to realize their lives are as unique as Gooney Bird's, and that they, too, can cast themselves as the heroes in their own true tales of discovery and adventure.

Roles available include Gooney Bird Greene, her classmates, her teacher, her parents, and various other characters in her true stories.  The production is under the direction of Brandon Thomsen, QCT's Director of Student Theatre/Head of Education.

Quincy Community Theatre's improvisational troupe, But Seriously Folks, will return for its sixth season, and troupe members are needed.  Auditions for students grades 9-12 will be held in the QCT Laboratory Theatre on Saturday, September 6th, beginning at 11:00am.  Those auditioning should enter through the Stage Door on the south end of the Oakley-Lindsay Center, 300 Civic Center Plaza.

The audition will consist of participating in a variety of group improv games, exercises and scene work.  Admittance into the troupe will be based upon spontaneity, chemistry with others, commitment to the activities, and truthfulness in the scene work.  Previous experience is not necessary.  There is a $50 tuition fee per semester for troupe members.

"But Seriously Folks..." practices both short and long-form aspects of improv and creates many games themselves.  Their primary focus is creating a series of connected scenes from a single suggestion from the audience.  The improv troupe will meet twice a week, 7:15-8:30pm, to discuss, rehearse and hone their improv skills.  During the week of an upcoming show, troupe members meet each day.  Three public showcases are tentatively scheduled for October 11, November 22, and December 20, with at least three more to be scheduled for the second semester.   It is also hoped that the troupe will tour, performing for organizations throughout the Quincy area.  For more information, contact Brandon Thomsen, Head of Education, at 222-3209.
