Cancer support efforts

The Blessing Hospital General Cancer Support Group meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9 at Noon at the Blessing Cancer Center, Broadway at 11th Street. The support group meets in the Complementary Services Room, which is located on the lower level of the Cancer Center. In honor of Prostate and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, please join us as Dr. M. Amjad Ali, Medical Oncology at Blessing Cancer Center, presents an overview of prostate and ovarian cancers.    

The General Cancer Support Group meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month and are open to all cancer patients, their family members, loved ones and other caregivers.  A light lunch will be provided during the meeting.  Please RSVP by calling the Blessing Cancer Center at (217) 277-3500 ext. 7709. The Blessing Cancer Center is offering the Look Good, Feel Better Program on Monday, Sept. 22 at 10:00am on the Lower Level of the Blessing Cancer Center.

Look Good...Feel Better is a free program that teaches beauty techniques to women cancer patients to help enhance their appearance and self-image during active chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Those participating in the program will receive a complete makeover using cosmetics and skin care products donated by the cosmetic industry. Women will also learn ways to cope with hair loss by using wigs, scarves, and other accessories. Six local cosmetologists, who volunteer their time, are certified for the program by the American Cancer Society.

Look Good...Feel Better is a non-medical, product-neutral program offered in partnership with the American Cancer Society, the National Cosmetology Association, and The Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association Foundation, a charitable organization supported by the cosmetic industry.
