Culver-Stockton College greeted its largest freshman class in a decade as 231 freshman have started classes.
Including 76 transfers, new student enrollment for the fall semester stands at 307, making it the third straight year the Canton college has eclipses the 300 mark.
College President William L. Fox said a new curriculum is the main reason for the nearly 14 percent increase in freshman over last fall.
"We have created an exciting curriculum with an innovative academic calendar that offers students a variety of options to explore their interests and build real-world experience into their studies," Fox said.
Fox said consistently reaching the 300 student level with each class puts the college in a good position for growth.
"Under the guidance of our 10-year strategic plan, we continue to succeed at sustaining a strong enrollment through our recruitment efforts, enhancing our academic excellence, developing a master plan, and sharing the story about Culver-Stockton College," he added.
For the second year in a row, C-SC has an an increase in both the high school grade point average and the average ACT score for incoming freshmen. The Fall 2008 freshman class has an average ACT score of 21.69 and an average GPA of 3.31.
"Not only did we bring in a markedly larger class, we significantly enhanced the diversity of our campus by recruiting students from seven nations, 14 states and the District of Columbia," said Melik Peter Khoury, C-SC vice president of enrollment management and college marketing.
The official enrollment is not taken until "census day", which is two weeks into the new semester.
