Educate yourself and be very careful in handling your personal information. Here are seven steps as provided in a recent article by Subhendu Zabada of American Chronicle.
- Do not provide anyone information online or over the phone.
- Buy and use a good paper shredder. Shred everything with even your name on it.
- Keep personal documents LOCKED even at home.
- Consider a locking mail box. That would keep prying hands out of your mail.
- Do not carry your Social Security Card, birth certificate or similar items.
- Password security. Use a combination of letters and numbers, nothing common.
- Buy credit monitoring! You will get an email alert of every action on your credit file.
